The Women in Leadership Symposium is a dedicated event that brings together accomplished women leaders, aspiring leaders, and advocates for gender diversity in various industries. The primary objectives of the symposium are to inspire, educate, and empower women to thrive in leadership roles and to promote gender equity and inclusivity in the workplace. This year's symposium theme is, Leading with Heart: Empathy, Ethics & Excellence," which celebrates and explores the importance of compassion, ethics, and excellence in leadership, particularly as they relate to women leaders. Attendees will gain valuable insights, advice, and connections, making the Women in Leadership Symposium an essential platform for advancing women's representation and influence in leadership positions.

Courtnee M. Biscardi, serves as Executive Vice President for the Urban League of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As Executive Vice President, Mrs. Biscardi oversees the Urban League’s Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), the Central County Community Development Corporation, which includes the Urban League’s Entrepreneurship Center programming. Ms. Biscardi’s team ensures access to technical assistance and capital for qualified minority and women owned small businesses through the Small Business Loan Fund. Ms. Biscardi is also responsible for Human Capital Management of the Urban League’s 70 employees and supports the governance functions of the Urban League and its subsidiary the CCCDC while developing new entrepreneurial strategies and ventures for the organization. Mrs. Biscardi, holding a Masters of Public Administration, has dedicated her entire 24 year professional career to the non-profit human service field. With a career focused on community and economic development including fair housing and asset building strategies, she has helped move hundred’s low-income families out of poverty to prosperity. As a 17-year employee of the Urban League, she has served in various leadership positions and has been a significant part of growing the Urban League’s programmatic profile and community impact. She’s been awarded by the National Urban League, Children’s Services Council, Broward Alliance for Neighborhood Development and the Health Foundation of South Florida for her commitment to prosperity issues in Broward. Presently, Ms. Biscardi serves as Board Member of the Housing Finance Authority of Broward County, Vice Chair of Community Reinvestment Alliance of Florida, Advisory Board member of TD Bank’s Community Development Corporation and Co-Chair of the South Florida Anchor Alliance’s Small Business Technical Assistance Working Group. Mrs. Biscardi’s passion for people and dedication to community and economic development is in direct alignment with the Urban League‘s mission to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power, and civil rights for the underserved.

Christina Kolbjornsen Senior Vice President, Corporate and External Affairs NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises Christina Kolbjornsen is Senior Vice President, head of Corporate and External Affairs for NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises. Kolbjornsen oversees corporate and public affairs, corporate social responsibility, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I), as well as community engagement and strategic partnerships. She also acts as a liaison to the company’s government affairs division. Prior to joining NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, Kolbjornsen served as Senior Vice President, Head of Segments and Marketing Communications for Wells Fargo, where she led internal and external communications for marketing and key consumer segments, among them: Hispanic, LGBTQ, Military/Veterans, Native American, African American, Asian, and People with Disabilities. Kolbjornsen also spearheaded partnerships with strategic stakeholder groups, Diversity and Inclusion communications, as well as Wells Fargo’s brand conversion and integration across the state of Florida. Her career spans nearly three decades, with senior positions at global marketing, public relations, and consulting agencies. Throughout her career, Kolbjornsen has received numerous accolades for her work. She recently received the first-ever Change Maker award from the International Society of Black Latinos, was named one of Imagen Foundation’s Influential Latinos in Media and The Hispanic Alliance for Career Advancement’s Top 40 Leaders. Other recognitions she has received include NALEO’s President's Award, Imagen Foundation’s Award for Best Social Awareness Campaign, PRSA’s Silver Anvil Award for Best Corporate Social Responsibility Campaign, and PRWeek’s Corporate Brand Campaign of the Year Award. Kolbjornsen is a member of several professional organizations, including CHIEF and Forum-Group. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Lotus House and has previously served on numerous boards including City Year Miami, Hope for Haiti, and the Public Relations Society of Miami, among others. Kolbjornsen holds a master’s degree in Public Management from the School of Public Affairs at the University of Maryland at College Park and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from The State University of New York at Stony Brook.

BIO: Julie Milroy, Vice President Supplier Development Marketing at Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits Julie is an innovative business growth strategist, multinational sales & marketing executive, and a recipient of the prestigious Wine & Spirits of America Mover & Shakers Award. As a proud Korean American, daughter of a single mother and immigrant, Julie is passionate about supporting marginalized communities and empowering women and the youth. Julie is an advocate for Diversity, Inclusion and Equity, serving on the WSWA Talent & Diversity and Women’s Leadership Council. She co-founded the first Southern Glazer’s External Podcast, Served Up and National Employee Resource Group, Caregivers C.A.N., dedicated to supporting those that provide direct care for others. With over 20 years of experience in the beverage alcohol industry, spanning various roles in Sales, Human Resources, Marketing, and Commercial Strategy. Julie can communicate and influence across broad enterprises of 20k+ employees, up and down the value chain and across all functions. Her empathetic and authentic leadership style enables her to bring diverse groups of people together and foster engagement for a common cause. With a discipline for rigorous improvement, Julie uses her diverse experiential background to maximize quantitative and qualitative growth opportunities that are customer centric, profitable, and sustainable. She has a proven track record of high-performance achievement, scaled across multi business units. One of her most notable projects included a statewide on-boarding program with an aim to retain talent through cultural integration and a master sales development curriculum. This became the framework enterprise-wide. She has numerous examples of professional, sales and leadership development programs. In her role as VP Supplier Development and Marketing at Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, Julie is responsible for the National Supplier Business Growth Plan to include Logistics, Commercial Strategy, Marketing and Sales Execution. Notably, she is co-host and co-creator of Southern Glazer’s Served Up – The Podcast, a source for beverage professionals to advance their skills, customer experiences, and work environments through insights and ideas shared by celebrated leaders in social justice and industry influencers. Julie studied at the University of Anchorage Alaska in business administration, Women in Leadership Program at Columbia Business School and is a certified Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers, Level 2 Wine & Spirits, WSET and Level 3 Sake, WSET.

Effie D. Silva is an experienced, public company leader who has a stellar track advising board of directors and senior management on a broad range of issues, including transactional, litigation, corporate governance, compliance and DEI matters. She currently serves as the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Fresh Del Monte Produce, Inc. (NYSE: FDP), a $4.5B food company. In this role, Effie leads the Company’s legal, risk management, ethics and compliance, food safety, government affairs and corporate reporting functions. Effie joined Fresh Del Monte Produce after a successful tenure as the Ethics and Compliance Leader for Cargill, Inc., $165B private global food and agriculture company. As the most senior compliance officer at Cargill’s $50B Protein and Salt division, she advised the Board of Directors on major compliance matters and led a team that was responsible for identifying and mitigating risks and developing business-sensitive solutions to complex problems. Prior to joining Cargill, Ms. Silva was a Vice President and Associate General Counsel at Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE: TSN), a $40B public food company, Ms. Silva was responsible for all legal matters impacting Tyson’s $10B Prepared Foods’ business unit and the enterprise-wide Sustainability department. In addition to her in-house experience at Fresh Del Monte Produce, Cargill and Tyson Foods, Ms. Silva brings 20 years of complex business law practice at prominent global law firms. She served as a Partner at McDermott Will & Emery and Duane Morris, and as a Senior Attorney at Baker & McKenzie, where she regularly advised corporate leaders and Boards of Directors of multinational companies on corporate governance, regulatory compliance and investigations, M&A, complex business litigation and international arbitration matters. Effie is bilingual, and has global experience across LATAM, APAC, and EMEA. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of International Arbitration (FCIArb) and a Qualified Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association (AAA), Conflict Prevention Resolution (CPR), and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). She is also Board Certified in International Litigation and Arbitration with the Florida Bar and has extensive cross-border experience advising and strategizing multijurisdictional disputes across venues, both nationally and internationally. Effie earned her Juris Doctor degree in Law from University of Florida Levin College of Law, where she currently serves on the Board of Directors, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from Wellesley College.

Dr. Char is an Industrial/Organizational Psychology Practitioner with extensive experience partnering with her clients (e.g., Broward Health, CaribShopper, Freight Handlers, Inc., JM Family Enterprises, Masters Electronics, Mount Sinai, the U.S. Military, and Federal Government agencies to name a few) applying practical Human Resources consulting solutions to close performance gaps driving strategic business outcomes. At ChenMed/JenCare, Dr. Char is both a big picture thinker and a hands-on implementer. Char was responsible for standing up and leading ChenMed’s corporate university maturing the L&D function in providing best-in-class, focused, engaging, and interactive learning experiences designed to help leaders and their teams master ChenMed’s core model, choose a path, and build their future and career at ChenMed. She led a talented team of program managers, instructional designers, and data scientists in formulating and implementing innovative learning strategies and solutions in partnership with the business to meet ChenMed’s development and delivery goals and improve learner outcomes through measurable and demonstrable results. In 2021, Char transitioned to the Divisional Director, Human Resources role where she partners with divisional leadership, in designing, leading, and executing strategies that deliver better health for our seniors and achieve the organization’s vision. Outside of ChenMed, Dr. Char continues to serve the development of future leaders in the HR and I/O Psychology fields as an Associate Professor in Baker College’s I/O Psychology Graduate Degree Program. She also serves on the board of advisors for the program with helping to shape the vision and strategy to align with the American Psychological Association and Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology standards for graduate programs in the field, and practice application for successful student outcomes. Dr. Char earned a master’s degree in I/O Psychology from CAU and a PhD in the same field specializing in Executive Coaching and Consultation from Capella University. In 2016, she was honored with the National Diversity Council’s Glass Ceiling Award for women who have overcome barriers to climb to the top, achieving personal success while also making it possible for others to more easily follow in their footsteps. In 2020, her team was awarded Gold for the Chief Learning Officer® Learning in Practice Business Partnership Award for ChenMed Leadership Pathways Program, our leveled leadership program designed to coach and develop leaders from emergent to senior leadership. She’s also a contributor to the eLearning Guild annual best practices Tips eBook, Training Industry Online Magazine, and Rutgers’s Business Review. Outside of work, Dr. Char enjoys spending time with her mom (Gene), husband (Colin), 2 children (Nick – 16 and Taytay- 15), 2 dogs (shih-tzus: Bella and Messi), and her cat (Patch). She also volunteers with Habitat for Humanity, the South Florida Diversity Council, and in our centers. She avidly participates in High Intensity Interval Training, and you can spot her on the beach on weekends, that’s one of her happy places!
